ARSENAL EYEING THREE STRAIGHT WINS

North London giants Arsenal in a better place after recovering from a poor run of one win and three defeats in four Premier League matches. The Gunners were on a run of eight games without defeat before the poor run that saw them lose away games against Liverpool, Manchester United and Everton. Since the Everton game which ended in a 2-1 comeback defeat, Arsenal have won two games and they can make it three straight wins by beating a Leeds United team still recovering from the 7-0 thumping suffered at the hands of Premier League holders Manchester City.

Manchester City didn’t spare an injury-hit Leeds United when the two teams met at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night. The Premier League champions scored goals for fun at the expense of the Whites who were fortunate to limit the goals conceded to seven goals. The defeat was the biggest recorded under the managerial era of Marcelo Bielsa and he would want a reaction from his team when they play the Gunners at home on Saturday.

For Arsenal, the current run of two straight league wins started with the 3-0 thrashing of Southampton at home. The Gunners showed their supremacy with goals from Frenchman Alexandre Lacazette and Norwegian senior national team skipper Martin Odegaard in the first half before Brazilian defender Gabriel Magalhaes wrapped up the win with a third Arsenal goal in the second half.

The Southampton game preceded the West Ham United game at home as well and Arsenal needed to beat the Hammers to replace them as the fourth best team in the league and they did just that thanks to the goals from Gabriel Martinelli and substitute Emile Smith-Rowe in the second half at the expense of a West Ham side who finished the game with ten men after Czech right-back Vladimir Coufal was sent off in the second half.
