ARSENAL FALL OFF THE PACE

After staying in the late for much of the season, Arsenal have now dropped four points behind leaders Chelsea after the latest round of matches. Their 1-0 defeat against Stoke City coupled with a 3-1 win for Chelsea meant that the blues were able to extend their lead. The Britannia stadium has for long been a bogey ground for Arsenal, who have been criticised for their inability to handle the physical nature of the Stoke team. It was the case once again, as the gunners wilted under pressure. After the encounter, Wenger admitted that it was now going to be difficult to catch Chelsea.

Arsenal’s fight for the title has been made even more difficult since Chelsea are not the only team involved in the title race. City are yet to play their two matches in hand, which could potentially take them top of the table. Liverpool have also overtaken Arsenal following the latest round of matches. Wenger stated that the 1-0 defeat, which was caused as a result of the Jon Walters penalty, was a major setback for the team. Arsenal have won just two of the last five matches in all competitions.

After this weekend’s FA Cup match against Everton, it gets even tougher with matches against Bayern Munich and Tottenham.

“We cannot say it’s easy. It is difficult, but I expected them to win at Fulham. I would say look at our results at the crucial point in the season and you would be surprised. Somebody says something that is not checked and everyone repeats it and it becomes an opinion, even if the facts don’t show it. Our end of season has always been very strong,” said Wenger to http://www.ilovearsenal.net in response to allegations that Arsenal are almost out of the title race even before the middle of March.
